With Halloween just around the corner, I thought it’s the perfect time to share some of the most haunted spots around the world. Are you ready to get your scare on? Whether you’re a ghostly enthusiast or a curious traveler, haunted destinations offer the perfect blend of chills, thrills, and tales that make your spine tingle. So, pack your bags (and maybe some holy water) because we’re about to embark on a spine-tingling journey through some of the world’s most haunted travel destinations. Boo!  

Domestic Haunts 

New Orleans, Louisiana – The Most Haunted City in America  

Known for its voodoo culture, jazz-filled streets, and eerie tales, New Orleans is a hotspot for ghostly encounters. From haunted mansions to ancient cemeteries, paranormal activity is a given in NOLA. 

What to See/Do: 

LaLaurie Mansion: Famously haunted by tortured spirits, a visit here is sure to give you goosebumps. 

St. Louis Cemetery No. 1: Explore the resting place of famous voodoo queen Marie Laveau. Visitors report seeing ghostly figures around her tomb. 

Haunted Tours: Take a guided ghost tour through the French Quarter and hear chilling tales of the supernatural. 

   

Savannah, Georgia – The Witching City  

Savannah’s historic homes and graveyards are filled with tales of eerie apparitions. The city’s dark past with wars, pirates, and plagues has bred an abundance of restless spirits. 

 What to See/Do: 

The Sorrel-Weed House: Known for its paranormal activity, it’s a paranormal investigator’s paradise. 

Bonaventure Cemetery: Wander through this beautiful yet haunting cemetery, where you might just hear phantom footsteps following you. 

The Marshall House: Built in 1851, this inn survived the Civil War and is known for ghostly activity. Guests have reported sightings of Confederate soldiers and eerie children roaming the halls. 

   

Salem, Massachusetts – Witches and Ghosts Galore  

The infamous Salem Witch Trials of 1692 have left an indelible mark on this historic town, making it a haven for ghost stories and supernatural experiences.  

What to See/Do: 

The Witch House: Visit the home of Judge Jonathan Corwin, involved in the witch trials. Ghostly whispers and footsteps have been reported here.

Old Burying Point Cemetery: One of the oldest cemeteries in the U.S., it’s the final resting place for many involved in the witch trials.

Edinburgh, Scotland – A City of Shadows  

With its dark history of witch trials, plagues, and castle dungeons, Edinburgh is teeming with ghostly lore. The city’s underground vaults and ancient streets are prime territories for hauntings.

Edinburgh Castle: Home to restless spirits, including a headless drummer boy, this castle is as spooky as it is historic. 

Mary King’s Close: Wander through this underground street and hear tales of plague victims’ ghosts that still linger.
