Some people care about the sites. Others care about the travel photos. But there’s a specific breed of traveler that cares about one thing more than the rest… the food! If you dream about gelato in Paris, authentic pizza in Naples, or sipping a rosé in Provence, you might be a foodie. Here are some tips for planning a trip with food at the heart.

Choose a Food Focus

You can decide on what sort of food experience you want to have before you choose your destination. Desserts, tapas, Michelin Rated restaurants, truly authentic regional dishes… each is a completely different experience! Ask yourself what kind of food are you most excited to eat a LOT of, and start there!

Choose Your Destination

Where are you willing to venture? Italy, France and Greece will offer an amazing food-focused vacation., but, if you’d rather stay close to home, you might start by considering the best-rated foodie destinations in the US like Charleston, Chicago, Napa, or Seattle.

Plan Your Itinerary Ahead of Time

You’ve heard of a bucket list. Now it’s time to create a “Must-Taste List!” Choose a destination and then start planning where you want to eat. Plan your meals into your schedule. Need recommendations? I would love to provide them — reach out and ask!

Do Your Research

While your experience might be different, doing enough research ahead of time reduces the likelihood of making an obviously bad choice and instead, finding top food destinations. Also does the restaurant need reservations or is it only open certain days and/or times?

Make a Schedule

My suggestion is to plan out one to two specific food stops per day that are along your planned travel route. But don’t forget to leave room for some impromptu stops. You might get a fabulous recommendation from a local or pass by a restaurant that smells irresistible.

Consider Booking a Food Tour

A food tour provides great insights into a city and a fun way to sample a variety of foods. Join a tour in Italy and learn how to cook your own pasta, a BBQ tour in Nashville or an olive oil tasting tour in Greece!

Use a Travel Agent

If this all sounds like a lot of work… that’s because it is! Especially if you’re planning a big trip with a lot of stops. This is where I can help you. I have connections all over and can help you eat and drink around the world.
